William Floyd School District mourns loss of former trustee Dr. Frederick Miller

The William Floyd School District announced the passing of former Board of Education Trustee Dr. Frederick Miller, who died on December 15. Dr. Miller was a longtime resident and active member of the community.

Dr. Miller served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. After his military service, he became first sergeant with the 106th Medical Squadron of the New York Air National Guard. He later worked as a parasitologist at Nassau University Medical Center.

From 2005 to 2008, Dr. Miller was a trustee on the William Floyd School Board. As a veteran, he supported veterans and their organizations and played an active role in Arthur H. Clune Post 1533 of the American Legion, serving as chaplain, board member, and third division commander for Suffolk County. In this capacity, he trained more than 150 Legionnaires in suicide prevention. He also participated in local organizations such as the Rotary Club of Shirley and the Mastics, the Chamber of Commerce of the Mastics & Shirley, and was an elder at Christ Lutheran Church of East Moriches.

The William Floyd School District serves over 9,400 students across ten schools from kindergarten through twelfth grade on Long Island’s south shore in Suffolk County (official website).
