William Floyd Middle School club publishes book on rescued seal’s journey

The William Floyd Middle School Animal Science Club has marked the publication of its new book, "Seal the Deal: Floyd’s Comeback Story." The book tells the story of “Floyd,” a seal adopted by the club through the New York Marine Rescue Center (NYMRC), and follows his journey from rescue to rehabilitation and eventual release.

Students from the club wrote and illustrated the book, which was printed by Canon after Floyd’s release in May. Representatives from both Canon and NYMRC attended a recent meeting at the school to celebrate with students and present them with certificates for their work.

Sophia Koshansky, a program assistant and biologist at NYMRC, recapped Floyd’s journey for those in attendance. She also provided an update on Floyd's current location using tracking data, stating that he was last seen off Baffin Island in Canada within the Arctic Circle.

Kate McFadden of Canon congratulated students on their accomplishment and presented certificates to all club members involved in the project. Each student received a copy of the newly published book. Some authors and illustrators signed copies for each other during the event.

Proceeds from sales of "Seal the Deal: Floyd’s Comeback Story" will go to NYMRC to support continued efforts in rescuing and rehabilitating seals like Floyd.

The collaboration included NYMRC in Riverhead, Canon as printer, and William Floyd Middle School Animal Science Club as creators. The initiative aimed to provide students with an educational experience while supporting marine wildlife conservation efforts.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
