The William Floyd High School Counseling Center held its first on-site admissions event of the 2025-26 academic year, providing students with a chance to meet college representatives and discuss their educational plans. The event, which is one of five scheduled for the school year, allowed students to have their transcripts reviewed, explore scholarship opportunities, and in some cases receive immediate acceptance offers.

During this initial event, 210 students met with representatives from ten colleges and universities. Collectively, these students were offered $1,188,000 in scholarships. Additional scholarship amounts are still pending determination. Participating institutions included SUNY Farmingdale, SUNY Old Westbury, Long Island University, St. Joseph’s University, Pace University, Johnson and Wales University, Mercy University, Iona University, New York Institute of Technology and Suffolk County Community College.

The Counseling Center announced that the next on-site admissions event will take place on Friday, December 12. This session will focus on Suffolk County Community College meeting with students interested in nursing majors. Another event is planned for Tuesday, December 16 for students interested in any major at Suffolk County Community College. Two more events are scheduled for February 11 and April 23 with both Suffolk County Community College and Eastern Suffolk BOCES participating.

In addition to these events, Medical Assisting recently hosted an in-class admissions session with Fairleigh Dickinson University. Approximately 50 students were accepted into health science or nursing programs as a result of this visit. Seniors are also planning a campus visit to Fairleigh Dickinson University's New Jersey location next week.

The Counseling Center congratulated all accepted students on the outcomes of the event.

Long Island University – Post Campus met with 42 students who received $644,000 in scholarships; St. Joseph’s University met with 29 students who received $374,000; New York Institute of Technology met with eight students who received $140,000; Mercy University met with three students who received $30,000; while other institutions such as SUNY Farmingdale (42 students), Pace University (16), SUNY Old Westbury (15), Iona University (13), Johnson and Wales (4), and Suffolk County Community College (51) had scholarships still being determined.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
