Willa Smith has been named the new regional center director of the Stony Brook Small Business Development Center (SBDC). She takes over from Martha Stansbury, who previously led the center.

Smith has worked for many years within the New York Small Business Development Center (NYSBDC) network. Her background includes advising small businesses, managing portfolios, and supporting entrepreneurial growth. She has contributed to helping both startups and established companies find financing, improve their operations, and grow sustainably.

The Stony Brook SBDC is part of the larger NYSBDC network in New York State. The center offers confidential and free business advising, training, and research services to local small businesses and entrepreneurs on Long Island. It works with partners including the U.S. Small Business Administration, New York State, and local economic development agencies to encourage innovation and job creation in various sectors.

Michael Kinch, Chief Innovation Officer at Stony Brook University, commented on Smith’s appointment: “Willa brings a strong record of leadership and a deep understanding of what it takes to help small businesses grow and thrive. Her experience and vision will be instrumental in expanding the SBDC’s role as a driver of innovation and economic opportunity across our region.”

Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.
