Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced on Thursday, October 23rd that Jeremias Anaribamoran, 48, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison by Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen M. Wilutis.

The Honduran national pleaded guilty in September to Murder in the Second Degree for fatally shooting 40-year-old acquaintance Gustavo Godinez-Carcamo in the latter’s Central Islip home.

“This senseless act of violence took Mr. Godinez-Carcamo’s life,” said DA Tierney. “Today’s sentence will ensure that the defendant will no longer be a threat to public safety.”

According to court documents and Anaribamoran’s own admissions, on March 15th, 2025, just before midnight, Anaribamoran and Godinez-Carcamo got into a verbal dispute while sitting in the backseat of a vehicle parked in front of the victim’s Central Islip home.

The pair, along with two others, had been socializing most of the day while consuming alcohol. The confrontation escalated when Anaribamoran pulled out a 9mm pistol and shot Godinez-Carcamo three times. The victim fled toward his nearby home, less than half a mile away.

When Suffolk County Police officers arrived, they attempted lifesaving measures on Godinez-Carcamo, who soon lost consciousness. Central Islip Volunteer Ambulance Company EMS personnel also rendered aid and transported him to South Shore Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy performed thereafter confirmed Godinez-Carcamo had suffered multiple perforating gunshot wounds to his torso and right arm.

Three days later, Suffolk Police Homicide Squad detectives arrested Anaribamoran after conducting multiple hours of surveillance.

The Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer to deport Anaribamoran following his sentence.

He was represented by Katherine Fernandez, Esq., throughout the case, and prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Eric S. Aboulafia of the Homicide Bureau.

The investigation was conducted by Detectives Frankie Sierra and Jose Johnson of the Suffolk County Homicide Squad.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
