Two William Floyd High School seniors, Katelynn Glover and Hannah Schultzer, have been recognized as Commended Students in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program. This recognition is given to about 34,000 students nationwide out of more than 1.5 million who took the qualifying test.

The distinction is based on their performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMQST) taken during their junior year. Both students scored in the top three percent of all test takers and received Letters of Commendation from principal Philip Scotto.

Katelynn Glover participates in several extracurricular activities, including the Science Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, and plays oboe in the school band. She will also perform in the fall theater production “Puffs” and is a Girl Scout working toward her Gold Star award by creating a pollinator garden with an educational board. She attended William Floyd schools from kindergarten through high school.

Hannah Schultzer is involved with the Youth and Government program, Foreign Language Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Science Honor Society, National Honor Society, Debate Club, and the New York State Teen Tech Council. The council is a statewide initiative launched by Governor Kathy Hochul and the Clinton Foundation to involve teens in educational innovation. Hannah also attended William Floyd schools throughout her education.

A spokesperson for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation said, “NMSC students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
