Johnson Controls renews grant for Suffolk HVAC/R program with multi-year funding

Edward T. Bonahue, Ph.D. President | Suffolk County Community College

Johnson Controls has renewed its commitment to Suffolk County Community College’s Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) program. The company will provide up to $100,000 annually for the next three years to support the program. This pledge continues four years of previous support from Johnson Controls and aims to help students prepare for careers in technical fields.

The funding will give students access to opportunities that blend classroom instruction with hands-on experience.

“We are incredibly grateful for Johnson Controls’ continued investment in our students and programs,” said Dr. Edward Bonahue, President of Suffolk County Community College. “This renewed grant ensures that Suffolk can provide the opportunities that prepare our graduates to thrive in the skilled trades while also strengthening the local workforce and supporting sustainable technologies.”

Since 2021, the Johnson Controls Community College Partnership Program has provided annual funding to community colleges across North America. The initiative is designed to help students pursue careers related to sustainable building practices. Suffolk County Community College has participated since the start of this partnership, offering technical training and industry connections for local students while addressing workforce needs.

Suffolk County Community College is part of the State University of New York system and enrolls more than 26,000 students in over 100 degree and certificate programs. The college serves regional employers by preparing graduates through various educational pathways.
