For more than a decade, Jennifer Frautschi has served as Artist-in-Residence at the Stony Brook University Department of Music, contributing to the development of musical talent among students and faculty. In 2015, she launched ‘Art of the Violin,’ a program designed to make live music more accessible to the campus community.
The initiative offers free pop-up concerts in the Melville Library Galleria, providing an informal setting for both casual passersby and those who attend specifically for the performances. The events feature not only violins but also chamber groups including violas, cellos, basses, and occasionally piano or wind instruments.
Frautschi said, “give people a little break from everything else going on in the world and enjoy the power of music and live musical performance.” She noted that these performances offer musicians a chance to engage with audiences in a more direct way.
The Art of the Violin is held two to three times each semester during Campus Lifetime on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. Upcoming performances are scheduled for Wednesday, October 22, and Wednesday, November 12 at 1 pm.
Information about these concerts is available on the Music Department’s concert listings page. The department also maintains an Instagram presence at @stonybrookmusic.
