Tracy Cavanaugh, RN, has been selected as one of six nurses nationwide for the fourth cohort of the Jonas-Flynn Oncology Nurse DNP Scholars program. The scholarship program is a collaboration between Jonas Nursing and the Flynn Foundation, aimed at supporting doctoral nursing students who are working to improve healthcare for cancer patients. Since its inception, the Jonas-Flynn scholarships have provided $550,000 in financial support.
Cavanaugh serves as the adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner program director and clinical instructor of graduate studies and advanced practice nursing at Stony Brook University School of Nursing. She also works as an adult gerontological acute care nurse practitioner at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and is pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in the care of populations track at Quinnipiac University.
“This award underscores Professor Cavanaugh’s significant contributions to oncology nursing and the preparation of nurses to deliver expert, compassionate care,” said School of Nursing Dean Patricia Bruckenthal. “This recognition is a testament not only to their leadership and scholarship but also to their unwavering commitment to advancing nursing education and improving patient care.”
Jonas Nursing aims to develop nurse leaders who will help address workforce shortages by educating future nurses and investing in underserved communities. The Flynn Foundation focuses on preparing more oncology nurses by partnering with educational institutions, cancer hospitals, and philanthropic organizations to provide fellowships that include clinical experience, training in compassionate care, mentoring, and career pathways.
