Maker Faire Long Island moves to Stony Brook University for its eighth annual event

Kevin Gardner, Vice President for Research and Innovation | Stony Brook University

The Long Island Explorium will hold its eighth annual Maker Faire Long Island on September 14, marking the first time the event will take place at Stony Brook University. The move coincides with the Explorium’s 20th anniversary.

Maker Faire is known for showcasing science, technology, engineering, art, and creativity through interactive exhibits and workshops. This year’s event is expected to draw more than 2,000 attendees from the tri-state area. Over 100 makers are scheduled to participate, including Stony Brook University faculty, alumni, and student groups.

“Maker Faire Long Island has always been about sparking curiosity and celebrating creativity,” said Lisa Collet Rodriguez, the event co-producer. “This year, with our move to Stony Brook University and the Explorium’s 20th anniversary, the Faire is reaching new heights — from fire-breathing dragons to Star Wars set pieces, and from robotics to sustainability. It is a day where everyone, from kids to seasoned engineers, can be inspired.”

Outdoor events are free to attend; tickets are required for some indoor programs. More details can be found on the Maker Faire Long Island website.

Is There a New Ace in Town?

The New York Mets have a new ace, and fantasy owners have been accustomed to viewing Freddy Peralta as a near-ace for some time. The move to a more pitcher-friendly park should help, but do not overreach, because the reality is that the lineup around him is roughly the same and the bullpen is likely worse at protecting his leads. Peralta has been a standout for years, and slotting him in as a high-value fantasy arm is easy. The question is just how high he should go.
