John S. Hobart Elementary School has outlined its Title I School/Parent Compact for the 2025-2026 academic year, emphasizing a collaborative approach between home and school to support student development.
The compact describes the responsibilities of the school, parents or guardians, and students in fostering academic, social, and emotional growth. The school commits to informing parents about programs and student progress through events such as Meet the Teacher Night, Parent/Teacher Conferences, Leaders of the Month Awards, PTO meetings, daily communication logs, phone calls via School Messenger, student planners, and curriculum-based informational meetings.
To further involve parents in education, opportunities will be provided including parent workshops, field trips, classroom volunteer programs, and special activity days. Cultural enrichment will be addressed through assemblies and special programs. Parents are also invited to participate in planning and improving school programs by joining committees like the Parent Engagement Committee or participating in PTO and SEPTO activities.
Academic goals include providing high-quality curriculum aligned with best practices and grade-level standards as well as coordination with the UPK program. The compact notes that citizenship skills and academic achievement will be encouraged through initiatives like Leaders of the Month Awards and the Hobart Leadership Initiative.
Parents are expected to stay informed by attending events such as Meet the Teacher Night and Parent/Teacher Conferences while monitoring student planners and reviewing written communications from the school. Support for workshops like Title I Parent Project Events as well as participation in fundraising activities is encouraged. Parents are also asked to take part in decision-making processes through committee involvement or informal communication with staff.
The compact asks parents to share responsibility for student achievement by monitoring homework completion and attendance, creating a supportive study environment at home, offering encouragement, discussing daily learning experiences with their child, reading together regularly, maintaining open lines of communication regarding progress, and supporting positive behavior.
Students have responsibilities under this agreement as well: completing all homework on time while seeking help when needed; reading at least 20 minutes each day outside of school; ensuring all notices from school reach their caregivers daily.
The document concludes with signature sections for principals, parents or guardians, students—and requests contact information along with preferred times for communication.
"We agree to work together, to the best of our abilities, as educators and parents to fulfill our common goal of providing for the successful education of our children."
