Stony Brook University welcomed its new president, Andrea Goldsmith, who began her tenure on campus last week. Goldsmith, the university’s seventh president, has spent several months meeting with campus leaders, faculty, students, alumni and staff in preparation for her role. She was selected by the SUNY Board of Trustees in February.
Campus leaders have commented on Goldsmith’s early efforts and leadership style. “Because of her accomplishments and her vision, people will see her as a leader, but because of how she treats people, people will see her as one of us,” said Executive Vice President and Provost Carl Lejuez.
Judi Brown Clarke, vice president for equity and inclusion and chief health equity officer at Stony Brook University, also spoke about Goldsmith’s background. “Her track record as an innovator, educator, and champion for equity positions her perfectly to guide us into what would be our next chapter,” Clarke said.
Additional information about President Goldsmith is available on her website.
