Councilwoman Bonner joins Sound Beach community for lifesaving blood drive

Jane Bonner Councilwoman District 2 | Town of Brookhaven

Councilwoman Jane Bonner joined families, local officials, and volunteers at a community blood drive held at the Sound Beach Fire Department. The event was organized by the New York Blood Center (NYBC) and took place from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., collecting 47 pints of blood. According to organizers, this amount is enough to help save up to 141 lives.

The blood drive was sponsored by Legislator Chad Lennon, Councilwoman Jane Bonner, Senator Anthony Palumbo, and Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio. Donors who participated received a pair of New York Mets tickets while supplies lasted.

“This event is a perfect example of the generosity and compassion that makes our community so special,” said Councilwoman Bonner. “Every pint of blood can mean the difference between life and death, and I’m so proud of everyone who rolled up their sleeves to help.”

The New York Blood Center has stated that New York is experiencing a blood crisis with supplies at dangerously low levels. The organization emphasizes that every donation is urgently needed for hospitals to have enough blood for patients.

For more information about donating blood or scheduling an appointment, individuals can visit www.nybc.org or call 1-800-933-BLOOD (2566).
