Stony Brook University’s Eta Theta chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha has received the Best Chapter Award for the third consecutive year. The recognition is given to chapters at universities with undergraduate enrollments between 15,000 and 25,000 that show high levels of activity and promote interest in political science.

Jason Rose, lecturer in the Department of Political Science and advisor to the SBU Pi Sigma Alpha chapter, commented on the achievement. “Our students on the chapter’s e-board have worked incredibly hard to achieve this, and our current department chair, Distinguished Professor Leonie Huddy, has been prioritizing our students’ clubs and the honor society for years,” Rose said.

Rose also noted support from elected officials. “Congressman Nick LaLota and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s offices have been incredibly supportive of the chapter, engaging with its students and holding several events over the past year.”

In addition to the chapter award, three members—Rachel Alexandre (who is also a 2025 SUNY Chancellor’s Award Winner), Olivia Touhamy, and Cole Reinking—received Written Excellence in Political Science awards.

The Eta Theta chapter organizes activities such as candidate nights, guest speaker events focused on international relations, special lectures, watch parties for political events, informational sessions about government internships, research paper workshops, and other programs designed to develop leadership skills among members. Students work closely with faculty from Stony Brook's Department of Political Science through these initiatives.

Pi Sigma Alpha operates chapters on nearly 850 campuses across the country. Since its founding it has inducted more than 300,000 members including prominent figures such as national leaders, Supreme Court justices, and many members of Congress.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
