Alumni gather at golf classic to fund scholarships for Stony Brook students

For over 20 years, the Alumni Scholarship Golf Classic has played a vital role in supporting more than 400 Stony Brook students. On June 30, 100 golfers gathered at the Nissequogue Golf Club in St. James, New York, to mark the event's 23rd anniversary.

The scholarships provided through this event are crucial for students' academic success and future preparation. They not only support education but also have a lasting impact on the Stony Brook community.

Samuel E. Katsaros ’24 expressed gratitude for this support: “Scholarships opened a world for me beyond the classroom walls,” said Katsaros, who received a business management scholarship. “The support empowered me to turn my academic insights into real-world ventures, shaping my future in the most dynamic way.”

This year's golf outing also served as an opportunity for alumni and friends to connect and reflect on their campus experiences while raising essential funds.

“I’m elated to see that year after year, the generosity of our alumni base continues to make this a great event supporting the university and our current students,” stated Frank C. Barile ’02, chair of the scholarship golf committee and vice president for engagement strategy of the Alumni Association Board executive committee.

Is There a New Ace in Town?

The New York Mets have a new ace, and fantasy owners have been accustomed to viewing Freddy Peralta as a near-ace for some time. The move to a more pitcher-friendly park should help, but do not overreach, because the reality is that the lineup around him is roughly the same and the bullpen is likely worse at protecting his leads. Peralta has been a standout for years, and slotting him in as a high-value fantasy arm is easy. The question is just how high he should go.
