Zariel Macchia shines at final state championship meet

Robert Taiani Vice President | William Floyd School District

William Floyd High School senior Zariel Macchia concluded her high school track and field career with notable achievements at the NYSPHSAA New York State Championship meet. Macchia secured the Class A and Federation titles in the 3,000-meter run, clocking a time of 9:26.55. She also placed second overall in the 1,500-meter run, narrowly missing the state championship but winning the Class A title with a time of 4:22.76.

Head coach John Ryan praised her performance, stating, “Zariel has many State Championship titles to be proud of, but this past weekend was her most impressive performance of her storied high school career as she raced with an ankle injury that would have sidelined most competitors.”

Throughout her high school tenure, Macchia has set numerous records and won multiple championships. Her accomplishments have earned her recognition as one of William Floyd's top student-athletes. As she graduates from high school, Macchia will continue her athletic journey at Brigham Young University as part of their Division I program.
