Caleb Gerry, a fourth grader at Moriches Elementary School, led an initiative to support children at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. Together with members of Center Moriches Cub Scout Pack 23, Caleb organized a collection drive for homemade cards with positive messages and donations of crayons, coloring books, and bubbles. The bubbles also serve as breathing exercise tools for the children.
Throughout April, Caleb promoted the project by making morning announcements and placing collection bins in the school lobby.
“It was such a beautiful project and we had so many donations,” said Deirdre Redding, principal of Moriches Elementary School. “Caleb did a beautiful job organizing his project and sharing it with his classmates and our community to help those less fortunate. I’m so proud of him.”
The collected items have been donated to Stony Brook Children’s Hospital for the benefit of the children there. Special thanks were extended to the Moriches elementary community members who contributed to the drive.
