The Town of Brookhaven Volunteer Youth Advisory Board collaborated with the Mount Sinai Yacht Club to clear litter from Cedar Beach on May 17. This event was part of the annual Great Brookhaven Cleanup, organized by Brookhaven Town’s Recycling and Sustainable Materials Management Department. The cleanup took place at Cedar Beach, located at 244 Harbor Beach Road in Mount Sinai.
Second District Councilwoman Jane Bonner expressed her appreciation for the volunteers' efforts, stating, “I’m incredibly proud of the young people who gave their time and energy to help protect one of our community’s most treasured natural areas.” She highlighted Cedar Beach as an important ecological area within Mount Sinai Harbor. Bonner added, “Efforts like the Great Brookhaven Cleanup show how powerful community partnerships can be when we come together to care for the environment we all share.”
Participants in the cleanup received free gloves, bags, and a t-shirt. Individuals or groups interested in joining future cleanups can register through the Town's website or contact them at 631-451-TOWN.
