In a recent court filing, a class action lawsuit has been initiated against a major appliance manufacturer over allegations of defective washer/dryer combos. The complaint was filed by Avroham Sherman in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York on January 27, 2026, targeting Haier US Appliance Solutions, Inc., which operates under the brand name GE Appliances.
The lawsuit claims that thousands of GE Profile Ultrafast 2-in-1 Washer/Dryer Combos were sold with defective lint traps and air ducts. These defects allegedly lead to excessive lint accumulation, preventing the appliances from effectively drying clothes. The plaintiff accuses GE of violating several consumer protection laws, including the New York General Business Law and the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. According to Sherman, these issues were known to GE prior to sale but were not disclosed to consumers. He asserts that despite being aware of these defects, GE continued selling the appliances without issuing recalls or offering adequate repairs.
Sherman’s complaint details how he purchased one such appliance in December 2023 for approximately $2,200 and began experiencing issues within thirteen months. His laundry remained wet after cycles, and excessive lint was found accumulating inside the machine. The lawsuit highlights similar complaints from other consumers who faced drying failures shortly after purchasing their units. Despite contacting GE for warranty service, Sherman alleges that repairs were ineffective and did not address the root cause of the problem.
The plaintiff seeks damages exceeding $5 million on behalf of himself and others similarly affected. He is asking for compensation covering inspection and replacement costs for the defective components, as well as equitable relief mandating GE to disclose and rectify these defects. Additionally, Sherman demands injunctive relief to prevent further misleading advertising by GE regarding its products' capabilities.
Representing Sherman are attorneys from Migliaccio & Rathod LLP based in Washington D.C., including Nicholas A. Migliaccio and Jason S. Rathod (pro hac vice pending). The case is identified as Case No. 1:26-cv-00453 in front of an undisclosed judge at this stage.
