Legislators Announce $4.5 Million for Bellport Revitalization

Senator Dean Murray | Office of Senator Murray

In a multimillion-dollar boost for community development, Senator Dean Murray announced that Bellport will receive funding through the NY Forward Program, a state initiative aimed at revitalizing smaller and rural communities across New York.

The $4.5 million in funding will support infrastructure, housing, and public space improvements designed to reinvigorate the Bellport area and promote long-term growth.

“This truly was a collaborative process,” Murray said. “NY Forward offers incredible opportunities to uplift and strengthen small, tight-knit communities like Bellport. This is a big win for the future of Bellport and the surrounding areas.”

According to the Senator, the funding was the result of strong partnerships between community members, local officials, and the administration of Gov.  Kathy Hochul. Local voices played a central role in selecting the projects that will move forward.

Once the state funds are received, the Town of Brookhaven will partner with private investors to implement a wide range of improvements across Bellport, including:

  • Streetscape enhancements such as new sidewalks and lighting
  • Affordable homeownership opportunities
  • Storefront and office space development to attract small businesses
  • Upgrades to Robert Rowley Park to make it more family-friendly and accessible
  • Landscaping improvements at the Bellport Train Station
The initiative is expected to improve the quality of life for residents, attract new economic opportunities, and restore a sense of pride throughout the community.

“This funding will bring long-overdue improvements to the Bellport area,” said Murray. “It’s a testament to what can be accomplished when residents, community organizations, and government work together.”

Murray credited the support of Assemblyman Joe DeStefano and thanked the many stakeholders who helped shape the proposal.

“As Bellport moves forward with this investment, the projects signal a renewed commitment to economic vitality, livability, and inclusive growth in the South Shore hamlet,” DeStefano noted.
