Brookhaven Town's amnesty program saves residents over $3 million in fines

Daniel J. Panico Supervisor | Town of Brookhaven

Farmingville, NY — The Brookhaven Town Amnesty program, launched at the beginning of 2025, has achieved significant participation and success, according to Supervisor Dan Panico and the Town Board. The initiative offered a limited period from January 1 to March 31 for residents to resolve residential permit violations without accruing late fines, which, in some cases, amounted to as much as $5,000.

In a significant outcome, 3,211 residents took advantage of the program, culminating in more than $3.1 million saved in fines. This initiative targeted situations where residential permits had expired for over 90 days, leading to additional fees, or where construction occurred without the required permits. Another key goal was to ensure that properties complied with fire code safety standards.

“This one-time program has proven to be a win-win for Brookhaven Town and our residents,” stated Supervisor Panico. “Not only have we helped homeowners bring their properties into compliance and avoid substantial penalties, but we’ve also enhanced overall safety—a step that could potentially save lives in the future.”

He acknowledged the efforts of the Town’s Building Division and expressed gratitude towards the residents for their commitment to safety, compliance, and community investment. “This program helped preserve the integrity and value of our communities and I appreciate the dedication of our Town staff and the many residents who stepped forward to do the right thing.”

Brookhaven Town's commitment to supporting its residents and enhancing community safety was evident in the large number of participants. Residents are encouraged to visit the Town website for information on future initiatives.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
