Stony Brook University President-Elect visits Stony Brook Medicine on East Campus

Stony Brook University President-Elect, Andrea Goldsmith, visited the East Campus on April 18. Her visit concentrated on Stony Brook Medicine's clinical enterprise. Scheduled to begin her presidency on August 1, Goldsmith met with the clinical leadership team to discuss the health system's successes, challenges, and the communities served.

William Wertheim, MD, Executive Vice President of Stony Brook Medicine, communicated to the community that Goldsmith "expressed genuine enthusiasm about being here, about the work we do, and an eagerness to learn more about Stony Brook Medicine. It was clear that she appreciated the chance to see first-hand how we deliver care, and the breadth of health care resources and services we provide.”

Goldsmith received a detailed overview of Stony Brook Medicine from leadership, followed by a tour of important clinical areas. William Wertheim and Carol Gomes, CEO/COO of Stony Brook University Hospital, led the tour which covered the Emergency Department, Stony Brook Children’s Hospital, the Cancer Center, and the Cerebrovascular Center.

These visits demonstrated Stony Brook Medicine's commitment to innovation, showcasing strategies to enhance healthcare quality and access across Long Island and beyond.

Wertheim remarked that the visit was meaningful in building connections with Dr. Goldsmith, demonstrating "the impact of the care we deliver every day." He added that he had met Goldsmith several times as she prepared for her role and expressed confidence in the progress Stony Brook Medicine would achieve under her leadership.

Stony Brook Medicine encompasses all health-related initiatives of Stony Brook University, including education, research, and patient care. This includes the five Health Sciences schools, Stony Brook University Hospital, various specialty hospitals, and over 200 community-based healthcare settings in Suffolk County.
