The College of Arts and Sciences has announced the Spring 2025 Sir Run Run Shaw Lecture Series. The series will begin on Wednesday, March 26, with a lecture titled “As Our Scientific Understanding of Time Changes, Does Time Change Too?” This event will feature Jimena Canales, an associate faculty member at Harvard University and vice chairperson of the American Council of Learned Societies.

The second lecture in the series is scheduled for Monday, April 7. It will focus on “Bioelectrocatalysis for Electrosynthesis” and feature Shelley D. Minteer, a professor of chemistry and director of the Kummer Institute Center for Resource Sustainability at Missouri University of Science and Technology.

The first lecture will take place from 12:30 pm to 2 pm in Harriman Hall, Room 137. It is presented by the Department of Philosophy. The second lecture is set for 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm in Charles B. Wang Center, Lecture Hall 2, presented by the Department of Chemistry.

Sir Run Run Shaw was known as an entertainment mogul and philanthropist who led East Asia’s largest movie studio during the 1960s and 1970s. In 1985, his foundation donated HK$1 million to Stony Brook University's College of Arts and Sciences through CN Yang and President Marburger's stewardship. This donation established one of the earliest endowments by the Stony Brook Foundation to support lectures within the college.

Applications are currently open for those interested in participating in the academic year series for 2025-26. More information can be found on the Sir Run Run Shaw Lecture Series web page.
