Stony Brook's Wolfie enters SUNY Mascot Madness aiming for third title

SUNY Mascot Wolfie | Stony Brook University

The Stony Brook University community is gearing up for the annual SUNY Mascot Madness tournament, where they will rally behind their mascot, Wolfie. This competition, which began in 2013, gathers mascots from across the State University of New York (SUNY) system to determine the most popular mascot in New York.

Wolfie has previously won this event twice and is set to compete again. The tournament kicks off on Tuesday, March 11. In the first round, Wolfie will face Perseus the Panther from Purchase College and a duo from Jamestown Community College—JJ the Jayhawk and Jax the Jaguar—in a three-way battle.

Mascot Madness consists of five rounds. Notably, Wolfie secured victories in both 2022 and 2023 by defeating Oakie the Acorn from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in each final.

Supporters can follow the tournament's progress and show their backing for Wolfie using #wolfie and #MascotMadness on social media platforms. Voting takes place on the SUNY Mascot Madness website during each round.
