Stony Brook University is set to host a full-day "Regional Grant Application Writing Workshop" on February 27, 2025. The event, organized by the Humanities Institute at Stony Brook University (HISB), will feature Dr. John Paul Christy from the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) as the lead speaker.

The workshop aims to assist researchers in the arts, humanities, and social sciences in developing collaborative ideas and enhancing their skills in writing grant and fellowship applications. Dr. Christy will guide participants through presentations on the grant process, conduct a mock selection panel, and offer one-on-one consultations for those interested.

Janet Ward, professor of philosophy and associate provost for Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Initiatives at Stony Brook University remarked on the importance of humanities-based scholarship: “The exceptional work of humanities-based scholarship in all fields advances our understanding of complex lived histories, deepens our sense of shared cultural heritage, and helps us imagine a better future for civil society.” She added that the ACLS provides recognition and support through prestigious grants which can be learned about at this workshop.

Michael Rubenstein, director of HISB and associate professor in the College of Arts and Sciences Department of English emphasized HISB's mission: “At the Humanities Institute at Stony Brook (HISB) our mission is to support and promote the work of our Humanities faculty." He highlighted that workshops like these are vital for applying for fellowships that enable scholars to pursue book writing or institutional grants which could position SBU as an innovative interdisciplinary hub.

The workshop will take place at Stony Brook University's Wang Center. It is free and open to the public with registration required. One-to-one consultations are available on a first-come-first-served basis with separate RSVPs needed for limited faculty meetings.
