Stony Brook University is set to host a new Artisan Market, organized by the Auxiliary Services Association (ASA) Department of Engagement and Guest Experience. The event aims to provide student entrepreneurs with an opportunity to display and sell their handmade products. Scheduled for February 12, from 12 pm to 2 pm at The Boulevard at East Side Dining, the market arrives just in time for Valentine's Day.
The Artisan Market will feature a wide range of handcrafted items, including jewelry, art, accessories, keychains, stickers, and crochet pieces. It invites the campus community to support fellow students while exploring unique gifts.
Dawn Villacci, ASA director of engagement and guest experience, described the market as "more than just a place to shop," emphasizing its role as an interactive experience that fosters personal connections. She added that each handmade item has its own story and meeting the artists enhances the purchasing experience.
Student artist Holly Paik shared her perspective on participating in the market: “I wanted to turn my hobby into something more, a way to engage with my peers in a creative and meaningful way.” Paik is a psychology major and founder of Crocheted by Holly.
Villacci highlighted the broader significance of the event: “We are thrilled to provide a space for student entrepreneurs to share their craft, gain exposure, and build their businesses.”
The event will showcase creations from several student artists including Holly Paik, Victoria Rose Stevens, Sarah Cocuzza, Emma Elgut, Olivia Qiu, Katie Tanoue, Aditiya Rashid, Caitlin Valencia, Kesh Kaur, Hailey VanCott, Aaliyah Barden along with contributions from the SBU Crochet Club.
