Cops Investigating Fatal Car Crash

Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Oakdale.

Police are still trying to establish the identity of the man who was killed.  Authorities said the man was in the roadway of eastbound Sunrise Highway, between exit 48 and exit 49, when he was struck by a 2011 BMW 550 driven by Wayne Griffith.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Griffith, 60, of Medford, was not injured.

The BMW was impounded for a safety check. 

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552.
