Kevin Meyer Board Member | William Floyd School District

New York State Assemblyman Joseph DeStefano has recognized April Coppola, the president of the William Floyd Board of Education, as a "Woman of Distinction." This honor is part of an initiative that highlights seven women from the Third Assembly District who have demonstrated exceptional service to their communities.

Assemblyman DeStefano praised the honorees, stating, “All seven of these women have shown remarkable commitment…to bettering our local communities. Let us recognize all seven of these women for all their hard work to serve our wonderful communities to the best of their ability.”

In addition to Mrs. Coppola, other honorees include Jodi Meyer Moran, Denise Nostrom, Danielle Paisley, Linda Piotrowski, Nerina Sperl, and Amy Thomas. DeStefano further emphasized the importance of these awards by saying, “Women of Distinction are the folks who really make a difference in our community. They go out and do the right thing, day in and day out, without expecting anything in return. They help their neighbors and people they don’t even know just because there is a need, and they have the ability to help.”

The ceremony celebrated the significant contributions made by these women in Suffolk County through leadership and dedication.

April Coppola has been involved with the William Floyd Board of Education since 2016 and has served as its president since 2022. A lifelong resident and graduate of William Floyd High School (Class of 1984), she participates actively in various community organizations such as the William Floyd Community Summit and Chamber of Commerce of Mastics and Shirley.

Coppola also engages in numerous local initiatives including beautification projects and community clean-ups. Her efforts extend to maintaining public spaces like Osprey Park in partnership with Boy Scout Troop 138.

As an advocate for education within her district, Coppola has contributed to enhancing programs that prepare students for future success while maintaining sound fiscal management.
