Newsday has announced its list of the top 100 boys' basketball players for the 2024-25 season, featuring three seniors from William Floyd High School. Jermaine King, Dahmarion Moses, and Jawuan Smith have been recognized among Long Island's elite athletes.

Jermaine King, a point guard standing at 5'9", earns this recognition for the third consecutive year. Last season, he averaged 10.8 points and 4.6 assists per game, making a total of 41 three-pointers. His performance also earned him All-League, All-Conference, and All-County honors during his junior year.

Dahmarion Moses makes his debut on the list as a 6'6" center. He averaged 8.3 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game last season, earning an All-League distinction. William Floyd head coach Will Slinkosky commended Moses's athleticism and ability to perform above the rim in discussions with Newsday.

Jawuan Smith receives this accolade for the second time as a forward measuring 6'5". Smith recorded a double-double average with 14.9 points and 11.9 rebounds per game last season. Coach Slinkosky praised Smith's mid-range shooting and defensive efforts in rebounding during conversations with Newsday, emphasizing his "ability to high-point the ball on rebounds." Smith was previously named an All-League, All-Conference, and All-County player and featured on Newsday’s 2024 All-Long Island First Team.

These athletes contribute significantly to their team's ongoing success which includes two league titles in consecutive years, an undefeated regular season last year, and reaching the county championship game.

The Colonials have started strong this season with victories over Smithtown East and Bellport in non-league games. They are scheduled to play at Bay Shore High School this weekend before hosting Walt Whitman at home on Tuesday, December 10 at 4:30 pm.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
