Shelter Island man indicted for child exploitation charges

Raymond A. Tierney District Attorney | Suffolk County District Attorney's Office

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney has announced the indictment of Juan Chuquimarca Guzman, a 20-year-old resident of Shelter Island, for charges related to promoting and possessing a sexual performance by a child. The charges stem from allegations that Guzman uploaded videos and images depicting child sexual abuse to a cloud service.

District Attorney Tierney emphasized the severity of these offenses: "The exploitation of children is among the most serious crimes we prosecute. Uploading these materials encourages further violent sexual assaults of children," he stated. He added, "Anyone engaging in these activities will face serious consequences. We are committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community and will continue working alongside our law enforcement partners to bring offenders to justice."

The investigation began in August 2024 when the New York State Police received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about an individual allegedly involved in uploading such material. State police investigators subsequently visited Guzman's home, where he consented to have his phone downloaded as part of their inquiry.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
