Burner Prudenti Law Partner Hon. Gail Prudenti has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Nassau County AHRC Foundation, Inc. As a member of the Board, Judge Prudenti will help advance the Foundation’s mission and ensure the long-term sustainability of programs that support children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Long Island.

“We are confident that Judge Prudenti’s involvement and commitment to the AHRC Foundation will strengthen our organization and help position our cause to best meet future challenges and opportunities,” said Thomas Rosicki, President of the AHRC Foundation. “It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that we welcome her as a new member of the Board.”

Judge Prudenti has had a longstanding commitment to helping families in crisis and assisting families with developmentally disabled children and adults. As Executive Director of the Center for Children, Families and the Law at Hofstra Law, Judge Prudenti launched and co-taught the 17-A Guardianship Project, an interdisciplinary program with AHRC Nassau, where supervised law students helped families with a developmentally disabled or delayed child with petitioning guardianships and standby guardianships to the Surrogate’s Court. The course was co-taught with Matthew Kiernan, Counsel at Burner Prudenti Law.

“Helping families, especially those that are most vulnerable, has always been a special priority for me throughout my career on the bench, in the classroom and as an advocate,” said Judge Prudenti. “I am so excited to continue my partnership with AHRC Nassau now as a member of the Board.”

As Presiding Justice of the Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department, a position she held from 2022 - 2011, Judge Prudenti established the Committee to Expedite Family Court Appeals to identify why appeals taken from the Family Court were not perfected in a timely manner. She also convened the Guardianship Task Force to examine the practices of the guardianship parts throughout the Second Judicial Department.

A family-led organization and a Chapter of The Arc New York, AHRC Nassau has continually grown to meet the evolving needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and their families. AHRC Nassau provides person-centered support to over 2,200 people throughout Nassau County.
