Man on the Street: Convention

With the GOP National Convention in full swing, the South Shore Press asked some of our local officials what they thought about the extravaganza, especially President Donald Trump's triumphant appearance after dodging an assassin’s bullet.

The convention marks a turning point in our nation's history. We saw a true hero step up to save us from the failed policies of Joe Biden. President Trump has selected an excellent vice president in J.D. Vance and is persevering to save our country despite everything they’ve thrown at him, even an attempt on his life.”

Assemblyman

Joe DeStefano

There was an energy there that we haven’t seen in years. It’s great to see the party coming together with such a positive direction. The infusion of new people and talent is something the nation has been looking for and which is sorely needed.”

NYS State Senator

Dean Murray

Elections are won by ballots, not bullets. We need to move forward on the issues peacefully, not with hatred. The convention showed great enthusiasm for the Republican platform and it is certainly a plan for a better tomorrow.”

Suffolk County Legislator

Dominick Thorne

Unity is the theme, and I’m happy to see it. The convention was upbeat and expressed a positive vision for our country. President Trump demonstrates the leadership and strength that the country needs right now. He showed his leadership under pressure.”

Brookhaven Town Supervisor

Dan Panico

The pledge toward unity and the toning down of rhetoric is such a positive development.”

Suffolk County Executive
