Man on the Street Talks About the Election

With Donald Trump making history by becoming both the 45th and 47th president and sweeping Suffolk with 402,924 votes, the South Shore Press asked Long Islanders what they thought of the election.

“The American people have spoken, and we have to respect that. I think President Trump will do an even better job than the first time on the border, foreign policy, and the economy, especially with no taxes on Social Security, tips, and overtime. Everything he pledged he will do, l believe he will do. He has already shown that he keeps his promises.”—Ron Kahl, Middle Island

“The election outcome was not a surprise. If you compared the candidates objectively without all of the spin and hype, it was obvious that Trump would win. Kamala Harris and a continuation of Biden, and even Obama, would have been a disaster for this country. We need Trump to fix what they broke. The next four years could very well be the best for the U.S. in modern history.”—Frank DeNatale, Shirley

“Our community came out strong for President Trump, and we should be rewarded. Lee Zeldin should get a top post in the administration and continue with some of the projects he was behind as a Congressman. These include replacing the Smith Point Bridge, renovating the William Floyd Estate, and getting money from the trillion dollar infrastructure bill for our roads.”—Bob Miller, Mastic Beach

“I’m thrilled that Trump got back in. He’s not a politician; he’s a businessman, and that’s what this country needs right now. He needs to end the terrible waste of our tax dollars and create a government that works for the people and not the special interests. The people voted, and they said loud and clear that we need a change in direction.”—Annabel Fucci, East Moriches

“I’m a Trumper, and I’m very excited for our country’s future. He will bring back prosperity that will help everyone. He will cut government spending and reduce inflation. He will clean out the Deep State and make our country respectable again. He’s done it once, and I’m sure he will do it again.”—Wendy Walsh-DeMaria, Eastport

“I’m optimistic for our country, for the world. The People have spoken, and I’m looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.”—Eric Johnson, Moriches.
