Bellport man indicted following record fentanyl seizure in Suffolk

Raymond A. Tierney District Attorney | Suffolk County District Attorney's Office

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney has announced the indictment of Remon Gibson, 43, from Bellport, on charges including Operating as a Major Trafficker. The charges follow what is described as the largest fentanyl seizure in Suffolk history. Law enforcement reportedly discovered 33 pounds of illegal narcotics at Gibson's residence, consisting of approximately 7 kilograms of fentanyl and 8 kilograms of cocaine.

District Attorney Tierney stated, "The amount of deadly narcotics seized in this operation is staggering. There was enough Fentanyl here to kill every man, woman, and child on Long Island." He emphasized the case as a demonstration of their commitment to combating drug operations that endanger communities.

DEA New York Division Special Agent in Charge Frank Tarentino commented on the arrest: "The arrest and indictment of Reman Gibson shows the commitment the DEA and our law enforcement partners have in targeting those individuals who are poisoning our communities."

The investigation led by Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office and Police Department members assigned to the District Attorney’s Fentanyl Task Force, along with DEA New York’s Drug Enforcement Task Force, executed a search warrant at Gibson's home on September 25, 2024. The search allegedly resulted in finding around $80,000 in cash, drug paraphernalia, and kilo presses with plates marked “COVID 19.” Authorities also reported discovering a large quantity of fentanyl near where Gibson's two minor children slept.

Gibson was arraigned on October 9, 2024, before Supreme Court Justice Richard Ambro. The charges include one count of Operating as a Major Trafficker and multiple counts related to criminal possession and use of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, he faces charges for endangering the welfare of his children. Justice Ambro set bail at $200,000 cash or an $800,000 bond. If convicted on the top count, Gibson could face a minimum sentence of 15 years to life imprisonment.

Assistant District Attorney Saam Jalayer from the Narcotics Bureau is prosecuting this case with Detective Damian Torres leading the investigation for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office Fentanyl Task Force.

Criminal complaints and indictments remain accusatory instruments until proven otherwise.
