Frank LaBianca has been recognized as the 2024 William Floyd Alumni Association Outstanding Educator. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1936 to Anna and Nunzio, LaBianca pursued his education at the New York School of Printing before obtaining a teaching degree from SUNY Oswego.
In 1960, he began his career with the William Floyd School District as an industrial arts teacher, focusing on wood and print shop. His classroom served as the district's printing hub for over 25 years. He also maintained a wall for inspirational quotes and student projects.
LaBianca was known for his dedication to coaching and education. In 1965, he co-founded the William Floyd Teachers Union with nine other educators. He organized a districtwide blood drive for a family in need and helped establish the Colonial Run to support local charities. He was also involved in creating programs like the Teen Night Center and advising the high school chess club.
His coaching contributions included leading boys' cross country and track teams, earning multiple inductions into the William Floyd Athletic Hall of Fame. He initiated and coached various sports teams including girls' cross-country, bowling, freshman football, and junior high baseball.
After retiring from the district in 1991, LaBianca continues to live with his wife Marian of 65 years. They are surrounded by their children Frank, Gina, Laurie, along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
