College Scholarship Deadline Extended

There are almost 50,000 active and retired CSEA members living in and around Suffolk County, and the dependents of those card carrying union members and employees are eligible to apply for a $1,000 college scholarship.CSEA Local 1000 put out a notice that they are extending statewide college scholarship applications until May 16th, 2024.Graduating high school seniors who are eligible dependent of CSEA active members are eligible to apply for and receive a scholarship.A total of 18 scholarships totalling $1,000 each will be given. Pearl Insurance and MetLife each sponsor a one-time $2,500 award.The scholarship application can be found at: cseany.org

Center Moriches Introduces 2024 Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Valedictorian Alexandra DeMatteo's academic foundation was firmly planted in the Advanced Placement curriculum. Her academic excellence led to her involvement in the Foreign Language Honor Society, where she serves as president, the Music Honor Society, where she is secretary, as well as membership to the English, Math, Science and Social Studies Honor Societies. Notably, DeMatteo earned the Seal of Biliteracy after taking Advanced Placement, college level Spanish. Additionally, DeMatteo was the class president in her freshman and junior years. She holds leadership roles in several school clubs including the vocal club and art club. This school year, DeMatteo was selected by the New York State School Music Association as an All-State musician to perform in the 2023 Winter Conference.
