Earthquake Rattles Region

Long Islanders were rattled Friday when an earthquake measuring an impressive 4.8 on the Richter Scale rumbled across the region. With its epicenter near Whitehouse Station, NJ, about 50 miles west of New York City, the quake was followed by 32 smaller aftershocks into early Saturday evening, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

Colonials Host Coaches vs. Cancer/Score for a Cure

The William Floyd girls’ varsity basketball team, led by head coach Rich Sinclair, recently hosted a “Coaches vs. Cancer/Score for a Cure” game against Riverhead to raise money in the fight against cancer. As part of the initiative, the Colonials also participated in a shoot-a-thon, and through concessions and T-shirt sales, they raised nearly $650 for the American Cancer Society.
