Hats off to the William Floyd School officials who have done what few districts have accomplished: submitting a budget to voters that not just stays within the state-mandated tax cap, but reduces the levy by 17 percent.

Gov. Kathy Hochul's disdain for the taxpayers was proven once again when it was exposed that she paid consultants $2 million to help her write her last two State of the State speeches. This is distasteful on all levels, but let's start at the top.
Retribution Over Truth
In a blatant act of retribution for digging into financial issues concerning the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library Trustee President Joseph Maiorana and the board of directors called an unscheduled "emergency" meeting two weeks ago to cancel the advertising contract with the South Shore Press. This paper has long been an effective source of news and information about the library and eliminating it as a communication platform is not in the best interest of the taxpayers.
