Drawing thousands of visitors throughout the summer, the Stony Brook Village Summer Concert Series returns to Village Center in July to continue a 45-year-old tradition.
“This year's concert lineup offers a diverse mix of musical genres and styles, ensuring there's something for everyone to enjoy, regardless of age or musical preference,” said Gloria Rocchio, president of Ward Melville Heritage Organization, which sponsors the events.
“We're especially excited to welcome back One Step Ahead to kick off the season, as they have become a longtime community favorite. We're also pleased to introduce several new performers, making their Stony Brook Village debut to the concert series,” she said.
These free concerts are held every Sunday from July 5 through Aug. 16 weather permitting with a starting time of 7 p.m. Offering harbor views, the concerts take place in front of the Stony Brook Post Office, 129 Main St. The full schedule is available on the website.
Since the first show in 1981, Rocchio said, the Summer Concert Series “has grown significantly over the years, becoming one of Stony Brook Village's most anticipated summer traditions.”
The thousands who join to share music and community spirit travel from across Long Island and beyond, she said. “We even offer a live Village Green camera, allowing people from around the world to experience the Village atmosphere remotely.”
It’s not just the beat, but the camaraderie that makes folks want to return. “Families, friends and neighbors gather on the Green, children dance to the music, and visitors relax and enjoy the sunsets across the harbor,” she said.
The Heritage Organization can offer these concerts free of charge because of “generous sponsorships", which this year included Suffolk County Legislator Steve Englebright, the county office of Economic Development and Planning, and Competition Automotive Group in Smithtown.
