A Shirley man is dead and two people are behind bars after a violent brawl inside a Long Island home turned deadly, Suffolk County police said.

Cops rushed to a house on Hounslow Road after a resident dialed 911 to report a fight involving a tenant who rented a room at the home.

When officers arrived, they found Christopher Martin, 48, suffering from severe injuries. Martin was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital–Suffolk in Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Homicide Squad detectives launched an investigation that quickly led to the arrests of two suspects.

Police charged Korey Sammarco, 36, of the Hounslow Road address, and Melissa Fawcett, 50, of Central Islip, with first-degree gang assault in connection with the fatal attack.

The pair were taken into custody less than 24 hours after the deadly fight.

Authorities said Sammarco was being held at the Third Precinct and Fawcett at the Fourth Precinct pending their arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip.

Investigators have not disclosed what sparked the confrontation or detailed the circumstances that led to Martin’s injuries.

No additional charges have been announced.

The case remains under active investigation, and detectives are continuing to piece together exactly what happened inside the Shirley residence before Martin’s death.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
