Fox News correspondent David Spunt reported that EPA Administrator and former New York Congressman Lee Zeldin has emerged as a leading contender for U.S. Attorney General following the firing of Pam Bondi, noting that while Zeldin is “a bit of a DOJ outsider, he’s an attorney and is well-liked by the President.”

Suffolk County GOP Chairman Jesse Garcia strongly backed Zeldin’s potential nomination, praising both his record and character.

“I’ve known Lee Zeldin for many years… and if the reports are true that he’s at the top of the list for U.S. Attorney General, I can’t think of a better choice,” Garcia said.

“From becoming New York’s youngest attorney at 23, to serving in the United States Army, to fighting for Long Island in Congress, Lee has always stepped up when it mattered most. And he hasn’t changed.”

Garcia emphasized Zeldin’s consistency despite rising to national prominence, including his current role leading the Environmental Protection Agency.

“No matter how far he’s gone, even now leading the Environmental Protection Agency and delivering real results, he’s still the same grounded, hardworking guy who puts people first,” he said.

He added that Zeldin’s leadership style sets him apart.

“I’ve seen firsthand how he approaches every challenge: focused, fearless, and always willing to take on what others deem impossible. Lee doesn’t just talk about service. He lives it.”

Garcia concluded with a strong endorsement of Zeldin’s qualifications for the nation’s top law enforcement role.

“If given the opportunity to serve as Attorney General, I know he’ll fight for this country with the same integrity and determination that’s defined his entire career. Proud to call him a friend, and even prouder of what he represents.”

Zeldin has not publicly commented on the speculation. The White House has not confirmed a timeline for selecting a nominee.
