Sayville High School has announced Mackenzie Schutte and Anthony Artusa as the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2026, recognizing both students for their exceptional academic achievement, leadership, and involvement in the school community.
Schutte and Artusa each earned weighted grade point averages exceeding 107, reflecting their commitment to rigorous coursework that includes numerous Advanced Placement and honors classes. Their academic success has also earned both students the distinction of AP Scholar with Distinction from the College Board, an honor awarded to students who excel on multiple AP exams.
In addition to their academic accomplishments, both students have demonstrated a strong commitment to extracurricular activities and leadership.
Schutte serves as co-president of the Science National Honor Society and is an ambassador for Morgan’s Message, an organization that promotes mental health awareness among student-athletes. She is also a member of the Principal’s Advisory Committee and participates in several honor societies, including the National Honor Society, World Languages Honor Society, and Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society. A dedicated athlete, she competes on the varsity girls lacrosse team and is a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
Artusa serves as the ex officio student representative to the Sayville Board of Education, attending meetings and providing valuable insight on student concerns and district initiatives. He is also involved in the Principal’s Advisory Committee, Student Climate Advisory Committee, Future Business Leaders of America, and Mathletes. In addition, he is a member of multiple honor societies and is an accomplished musician, playing alto saxophone in the school’s wind ensemble.
School leaders praised both students for their dedication and achievements.
“Mackenzie and Anthony truly embody the very best of Sayville High School,” said Principal Stephanie Bricker. Superintendent Dr. Marc Ferris added that the honor reflects years of hard work and perseverance.
