Enrollment is now open for the next class at the Plumbing Contractors Association of Long Island’s (PCALI) Plumbing Institute, a fully funded training program aimed at preparing a new generation of skilled tradespeople amid growing national demand for careers in the building trades.

The Melville-based program, which launched its first class last September, offers hands-on training and real-world experience at no cost to participants.

Admission is limited to 25 students and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

“The Plumbing Institute is all about strengthening the plumbing industry on Long Island,” said PCALI President Jeff Connelly.

“By offering students hands-on training and valuable industry experience, we’re helping prepare the next generation entering the trade while also supporting the continued growth of our members.

”The initiative comes as the skilled trades sector continues to expand both in New York and nationwide. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters is projected to grow about 6% through 2033, with tens of thousands of openings each year driven by retirements and increased construction demand.

At the same time, more Americans are reconsidering the traditional four-year college path.

Trade and vocational program enrollment has risen in recent years, while college enrollment has declined from its peak.

Meanwhile, the average federal student loan debt for a bachelor’s degree recipient exceeds $30,000, leaving many graduates burdened with long-term financial debt.

Joe Enea, Director of the PCALI Plumbing Institute, said the program offers a practical, debt-free alternative.

“Our goal is to develop well-trained plumbers, and it all starts right here,” Enea said.

“Students gain not only technical skills but access to a network of professionals that can lead directly to employment.”

Those interested in applying for the upcoming class can contact Enea at (631) 560-0973 or by email at joe@pcali.org. With demand high and class size limited, prospective students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
