A class action lawsuit has been filed against a prominent security camera manufacturer, alleging deceptive practices and privacy violations. On January 16, 2026, plaintiffs Sean Hill, Howard Portman, and Vishal Shah filed the complaint in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York against Lorex Corporation and Lorex Technology Inc. The plaintiffs claim that the defendants misled consumers by marketing their security cameras as private and secure while allegedly exposing users to surveillance risks linked to foreign-controlled technology.

The plaintiffs purchased Lorex security cameras with the expectation of secure home monitoring based on the company's representations. However, they allege that these cameras were built using technology from Zhejiang Dahua Technology Co., Ltd., a Chinese company subject to U.S. government restrictions due to national security concerns. The lawsuit highlights that Lorex's marketing materials assured customers of their commitment to privacy and security, with statements like "Your privacy is our top priority" and "We take every step to ensure your security." Despite these assurances, the plaintiffs argue that the cameras pose significant privacy risks due to Dahua's involvement.

The lawsuit accuses Lorex of violating consumer protection laws by failing to disclose Dahua's role in their products' development and the associated security vulnerabilities. The plaintiffs contend that had they known about these risks, they would not have purchased the cameras or would have paid significantly less for them. They are seeking damages and equitable relief on behalf of all consumers who bought Lorex Camera Products under false pretenses.

The legal action also points out that Lorex's products are marketed through major retailers like Costco, Best Buy, Home Depot, Amazon, and others. These retailers feature Lorex products alongside other trusted brands, reinforcing consumer confidence in their safety. However, a letter from the Congressional-Executive Commission on China raised concerns about critical vulnerabilities in Dahua products used by Lorex, including unauthorized access to video feeds and potential data sharing with Chinese authorities.

The plaintiffs are represented by attorneys who have conducted an investigation into these claims. They seek class-action status for individuals across the United States who purchased Lorex Camera Products during the applicable statute of limitations period. The case is presided over by Judge [Name] under Case ID 2:26-cv-00293.
