On February 25, Councilwoman Jane Bonner attended the Rocky Point Sound Beach Chamber of Commerce Winter Awards Gala at the North Shore Beach Clubhouse in Rocky Point. The event recognized local businesses and volunteers who have contributed to the community and supported the chamber during its first year. Councilwoman Bonner received the Distinguished Public Service Award at the ceremony.
Councilwoman Bonner stated, “The Rocky Point Sound Beach Chamber of Commerce has come a long way in just one year. Their entire membership deserves to be honored for the work that they do to make the community a better place to live and I thank them for recognizing me with the Distinguished Public Service Award.”
Other honorees included Darran Handshaw from Sound Beach Fire Department (William Harrison "Service to Sound Beach" Award), Sean Martin from Rocky Point Fire Department (Joseph A. Edgar "Service to Rocky Point" Award), Joe Cognitore from VFW Post 6249 (Point of Light Award), Debbie Nappi-Gonzalez (Volunteer of the Year Award), Bea Ruberto from Sound Beach Civic Association (Good Neighbor Award), Jennifer Carlson from Rocky Point Civic Association (Good Neighbor Award), Donna McCauley (Commitment to Community Award), Michael Rosasco from Sound Beach Fire Department (William Harrison "Service to Sound Beach" Award), Frank Raspanti from Suffolk County Police Department 7th Precinct (Ralph Sorli "Excellence in Service" Award) and Gary Pollakusky, President and Executive Director of the Rocky Point Sound Beach Chamber of Commerce.
