Former Executive Alleges Gender Discrimination Against Tech Company

A high-profile legal battle has emerged as a former executive takes on her previous employer, alleging a pattern of gender-based discrimination and hostile work environment. Lauren Koenig filed a complaint against Celitech, Inc., and its co-founder Richard Bratton in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York on January 7, 2026. The lawsuit accuses Celitech of wrongful termination following persistent discriminatory practices and harassment due to Koenig's gender.

The case unfolds with Koenig recounting her experience as the sole female executive at Celitech, where she faced inappropriate behavior from Bratton, including an incident where he allegedly assaulted her while intoxicated at a work conference in Lisbon. This behavior was part of a broader pattern that Koenig claims led to her eventual termination despite her successful performance. According to the complaint, "Koenig was subjected to violent and inappropriate behavior" by Bratton, which was tolerated by the company despite being reported. The complaint further details how Bratton's conduct during company events often left Koenig to manage alone while he recovered from his excesses.

Koenig’s lawsuit seeks justice under several counts: violations of the New York State Human Rights Law (NYSHRL) and New York City Human Rights Law (NYCHRL), negligent supervision and retention by Celitech, and assault by Bratton. She alleges that despite being recognized for her contributions—referred to as a "rockstar CMO" by another co-founder—she faced retaliatory actions when requesting time off due to stress caused by this hostile environment. Her claims are supported by instances where male colleagues did not face similar scrutiny or repercussions for their actions.

The plaintiff is seeking compensatory and punitive damages totaling at least $4 million across various counts, including wrongful termination based on gender discrimination under NYSHRL and NYCHRL laws, negligent supervision regarding Bratton’s conduct, and personal damages from assault. The relief sought also includes attorney fees and any other relief deemed just by the court.

Representing Lauren Koenig is Brett R. Gallaway from McLaughlin & Stern, LLP. The case is presided over in the Eastern District of New York under Case No.: 1:26-cv-00090.
