The William Floyd High School Business Academy recently held its second annual “Women in Business” workshop, aimed at supporting female high school students with guidance from accomplished women entrepreneurs. The event featured speakers Elizabeth Agosto, Holly Rae Felicetta, and Marina Mentzel, each of whom has experience leading or founding companies in various industries.

“The Women in Business Workshop was created to empower young women with the skills, confidence and voice they need to step boldly into their futures and lead with purpose,” said Jacqueline Giacalone, chairperson of William Floyd High School Business and Technology Education. “The speakers were candid and insightful, providing students with an authentic perspective that left them feeling genuinely inspired.”

During the workshop, the presenters discussed their professional backgrounds and shared practical advice for students preparing for future careers. They spoke about their respective journeys—Agosto’s progression from entry-level positions to executive roles at major financial institutions before founding ELA Executive Solutions; Felicetta’s work as a senior partner at The Inflection after years of launching businesses; and Mentzel’s leadership at urSwim, which has delivered over 80,000 swimming lessons under her direction.

At the end of the presentation, the entrepreneurs led a question-and-answer session where they provided additional career guidance and networking tips. Students also had opportunities for one-on-one discussions with the speakers.

Giacalone noted that these experiences offered students valuable insights to help them achieve personal goals as they move forward in their education and eventual careers.

A video recap of the event was produced by Stacy Redmond, library media specialist at William Floyd High School.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
