William Floyd High School names David Villegas Artist of the Month

David Villegas, senior | William Floyd School District

William Floyd High School has named senior David Villegas as its latest “Artist of the Month.” Villegas was selected after a competition among senior artists, and his artwork will appear on the cover of the 2026 William Floyd High School yearbook. He received a certificate from Fine Arts chairperson Theresa Bianco and art teacher Erika LiCausi in recognition of his achievement.

The school continues its tradition of featuring student art and photography in the yearbook, a practice that has been in place for decades.

WFHS yearbook co-advisor and science teacher Dr. Lisa Incantalupo commented on the impact of student-created covers: “It is more engaging visually and makes the yearbook more memorable and meaningful for all the students, even those who don’t actually produce the art.”

Villegas’s cover design was created using colored pencils, acrylic paint, and Copic markers. The artwork shows cars racing on a track with a checkered flag, surrounded by spectators in a stadium, while a flying saucer and blimp are overhead. A green sports car with a graduation cap hood ornament crosses the finish line to symbolize completing K-12 education. Villegas explained that another element—a beach buggy driving off a ramp onto the track—represents taking positive risks to achieve future goals.

Villegas is undecided about which college he will attend next fall but plans to continue studying art at the collegiate level. His time at William Floyd began in ninth grade.

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
