William Floyd varsity football finishes undefeated season ahead of playoffs

The William Floyd High School varsity football team, under the leadership of head coach Paul Longo, completed its 2025 regular season undefeated with an 8-0 record. The Colonials secured a decisive 35-0 win against Walt Whitman on Saturday, clinching their 17th Division I championship and earning their 26th consecutive playoff appearance.

With this victory, William Floyd becomes the top seed in the Section XI playoff bracket and will host No. 8 Sachem East at the Lincoln Avenue Sports Complex on Saturday, November 8 at noon. Earlier in the season, the Colonials defeated Sachem East with a score of 34-0.

Attendance procedures from the regular season remain in effect for the upcoming playoff game.

In their final regular season match, William Floyd’s defense achieved its fourth shutout of the year. Junior Derek Glock intercepted a pass during Walt Whitman’s opening drive, giving the Colonials favorable field position. Senior Ja’Quan Thomas capitalized by scoring a touchdown on the first offensive play and went on to add two more rushing touchdowns before halftime. After his third touchdown, a fumble recovery led to senior Aisays Wallace adding another score before halftime. Thomas scored again in the second half and finished with four touchdowns, 205 rushing yards, and one sack. On defense, seniors Jayden Johnson and Aidan Williams along with junior Jake Rivera contributed to six total sacks during the game.

The full roster features seniors Fraz Ahmed, Matthew Benjamin, Divine Bennett, Evan Commodore, JP Galasso, PJ Gilhauley, David Gonzalez, Jordan Goodwin, Jeru Hall, Coby Huggins, Cedric Jacques, Jayden Johnson, Spencer Link, Josiah Lors, Daveigh McKenzie, Joseph Melecio, Jack Meyer, Patrick Mitchell, Angyl Palin, Tacari Reece, Alex Rodriguez, Ja’Quan Thomas, Darnell Toussaint, Aidan Williams and Aisays Wallace; juniors Derek Glock and others; as well as several sophomores.

The school also marked Senior Day during this game for members of the varsity football team as well as senior members of the varsity cheerleading team and Rockettes performance group. All senior student-athletes were recognized in a pre-game ceremony alongside friends and family.

Congratulations were extended to all student-athletes and coaches as they prepare for postseason play.
