The William Floyd High School boys’ varsity cross country team has completed its regular season with a 4-1 record, securing a place in the county championship at Sunken Meadow State Park. The team's performance also qualified them for the upcoming state qualifier race scheduled for November 6.

Head coach Ed Noll led the team through a strong season. At the county championship on October 27, Vidal Macchia won the Division I title with a time of 16:57 in the 5K race. Macchia has consistently performed well in both dual meets and invitational races at Sunken Meadow. He is set to compete in the State Qualifier meet alongside his teammates.

Other key contributors to the Colonials include seniors Holden Lentini, Duncan Mahnken, Andrew Marino, and Richie Gielarowski, who have all been part of the program throughout their high school years. Tyler Onza, an eighth-grade student-athlete from William Floyd Middle School, has also made significant contributions.

Macchia continued his strong season by finishing third overall in the county after his Division I Championship run. He then won the Sophomore Championship Race on October 31 and placed first at the USATF Youth Championships during the Abbott Dash to the Finish 5K in New York City.

The Colonials’ roster features seniors Valentino Abate, Richard Gielarowski, Nicolaus Lattanzi, Holden Lentini, Duncan Mahnken, Andrew Marino and Cristian Sarmiento; juniors Kenneth Carroway and Bryan Lin; sophomores Dwayne Fortune, Ryan Gerbino and Vidal Macchia; freshmen Jacob Barcia and Ryan Formato; as well as eighth grader Tyler Onza.

Coach Noll stated: "Congratulations, Colonials! Good luck the rest of the way!"

Don't Expect Bregman to Pay Off

This week, one of the bigger names in the free agency cycle signed with the Chicago Cubs, and fantasy managers everywhere sighed. Usually, anyone heading to Wrigley Field is viewed as a positive, but for Alex Bregman, more information has emerged suggesting this move could spell trouble for his fantasy outlook. Bregman is a right-handed pull hitter who previously played in two of the more favorable home parks for that profile in Houston and Boston. Both parks feature short left-field dimensions that reward pulled fly balls and help inflate power numbers.

Futures Bettors Will Be Smiling

The College Football Championship is set, and it pits two of the more unlikely teams against each other. Indiana may have the largest living alumni base in the country, with more than 800,000 graduates, but few expected the Hoosiers to reach this stage. They feature zero five-star recruits and have instead relied on depth, discipline, and consistency while dominating all season long.
